Stronger Support for Women and Girls: How The Remnant Generation Uses Life Gardens

Remnant Generation

When fire swept through Katwe, families lost their homes and their next meal. The Remnant Generation had food ready: fresh vegetables from its Life Garden, grown with training and support from Thrive for Good.

“The sack of sweet potatoes harvested from the Myanzi farm came at the right time. Following the recent fire outbreak in Katwe, many families were left in need of food support. Receiving this harvest enabled us to provide immediate relief to the affected community. We are grateful that the farm continues to be a source of hope and practical support to those facing difficult circumstances.” — Pastor Moses

Remnant Generation Beds

The Remnant Generation works with women, girls, and families, including girls in its Jewels of Honour Programme and those living at the Princess Shelter.

Through its partnership with Thrive for Good, the organization received Life Garden training, nutrition knowledge, and ongoing technical guidance.

They then put it to work at the Myanzi farm, growing a variety of crops for the people it serves.

The Harvest, Two Ways

The garden’s produce reaches two groups. Fresh cabbage, sukuma wiki, and other vegetables go into meals for girls at the Jewels of Honour Programme and Princess Shelter, providing nutrition that matters during a critical stage of their development. And when Katwe families needed emergency food, the same garden supplied it, without the delay of outside aid.

“The fresh cabbage and sukuma wiki harvested from the Myanzi farm were a wonderful addition to the meals served to the girls at the Jewels of Honour Programme and Princess Shelter. Access to fresh vegetables has greatly improved the nutritional value of their meals, which is especially important for the girls’ healthy growth and well-being. We sincerely appreciate this support and the positive impact it is making in their lives.” — Mama Margrete

The garden isn’t only feeding people — it’s also training them. Staff and community leaders at The Remnant Generation have learned sustainable organic agriculture through the partnership, giving them skills to grow food locally and rely less on outside food assistance. That knowledge turns women into the ones leading, mentoring, and teaching others in their communities.

Remnant Generation Women

The same garden that feeds girls every week also fed families the week their homes burned.

That’s the case for Life Gardens: they don’t just produce vegetables, they produce a standing local food source that’s there whether the need is routine or urgent.

For The Remnant Generation, the Thrive for Good partnership has meant nutrition knowledge and land put directly to work for girls building healthier futures, and for women building the skills to lead their own communities forward.
